Friday Favourites

These beautiful drawings are all created on a white board with a white board marker during the 25 minute lunch hour of teacher and artist Gregory Euclide. Euclide has certainly developed quite the  technique for drawing on a white board and is very interested in exploring the limitations of time and materials. In order to get different tones, Euclide uses techniques like moistening the board in advance, wiping away the marker and spraying it with water. Euclide's student's would arrive back into the classroom after their lunch hour and our lucky to witness these beautiful landscapes. They are always amazed at how quickly their teacher could create something so beautiful, however within a few short minutes of everyone settling down the artwork is erased and the class carries on. 

Gregory Euclide explains how erasing his hard work is part of the end result. 

"In our culture, there is a strong emphasis on reproduction and the original seems less important. My students were shocked when I would erase the original, because they saw it firsthand, and they were disturbed that it was destroyed. People who do not see the original have no problem only looking at it on a screen or as a print, but once you see the original it is hard to let it go or believe that it could be destroyed.” Euclide relates this concept to societyʼs impact on the natural world by stating, “When people get to know nature and spend time in it, they start to realize how their actions affect it.”

RED BAG SALE!!!

Burlington's Downtown Red Bag Sale is this weekend, Friday July 13th, Saturday July 14th and Sunday July 15th! For this weekend and this weekend only, Artists Walk will pay the HST on all purchases under $500!! That means you can save a few dollars or can buy two of everything (the latter is probably your best option :)

Our hours of operation for the sale are:
Friday 11-9 pm
Saturday 11-8 pm
Sunday 12-5

There are lots of other business' taking part in this downtown event, so call up your friends and make a day out of it. Plus if you get spotted carrying a red bag sale bag you could win a prize!!! So what do you have to lose, get those shopping shoes on and shop until you drop.... or at least until you've hit up all the awesome shops!

Friday Favourites

Here is a cool little video for this week's Friday Favourites. An artist who goes by the name FlippyCat, spends hours strategically lining up thousands and thousands of coloured dominos and then knocks them down. In this video,  the fallen down dominos replicate the painterly style of the ever so famous painting 'Starry Starry Night' by Vincent Van Gogh.... or in this case Vincent Van Dominogh. The total time to create this piece took FlippyCat 11 hours and 70,000 dominos- only to be quickly knocked down and picked up again ( Chumbawamba anyone?)

Perhaps a fun indoor activity to try during this brutal heat wave... just don't put a fan too close to where your working or your work might tumble before you want it to.
