Matching your accessories to your outfit is one thing, but pulling together an outfit by matching it to your favourite fine art piece is a whole new ball game to us (not that we would wear a cute art inspired outfit to a ball game). These outfits were put together by Georgina M., a art history grad who has created numerous art inspired outfits on the popular fashion blog 'Polyvore'. Georgina interprets the colors, mood, pattern and movement of the fine art piece into articles of clothing, with fabrics and cuts that are conveyed in the original art piece.  Sometimes she finds a modern take on the clothing worn in the art, while other times, when no figure/clothing is depicted, she translates the artwork into an outfit that expresses the core of the piece.

How inspiring is this idea? We have a great collection of fine art pieces in the shop, that would sure make for a super awesome outfit. If you already have a painting in mind but are lacking in the accessory department, don't fret, we are quite certain we'll have what your looking for to complete your 'masterpiece'.  Putting outfits together in the morning just became a whole lot easier (as long as people keep creating art pieces :) just a grab a art history book (we know you have several just lying about your home....right?) and match it up to your clothes, just don't try to mimic the art work too much, we don't want to be to blame for anyone walking around with makeup done a la Picasso!

And being Vincent Van Gogh's birthday today, perhaps you can start off by creating an outfit inspired by one of his beloved masterpieces!

We just got some great new product in the shop (as shown above) by the talented Kailey Lang. Kailey Lang is a third year Sheridan College illustration student and creates some beautiful work with the perfect amount of whimsy. We love the way that Kailey turns fine art into functional art by placing miniature versions of an illustration behind glass to create awesome pendants for necklaces, earrings, pocket mirrors, magnets and much more! But if you'd rather keep these illustrations in their 'fine art' form, you can pick up one of her prints here as well.The Giclee prints are great and really showcase how the original water colour would look like.

If you've always wanted to wear a piece of fine art around your neck, now is your chance!

*Giclee, as a fine art term, has come to be associated with fine art prints using fade-resistant, archival inks (pigment & solvent based inks), and archival material primarily produced on Epson large format printers. These printers use the CMYK colour process but may have multiple cartridges for variations of each colour based on the CcMmYK colour model (e.g. light magenta and light cyan inks in addition to regular magenta and cyan); this increases the apparent resolution and colour range which allows smoother gradient transitions. A wide variety of materials can be used, including various textures and finishes such as matte photo paper, watercolor paper, cotton canvas, or artist textured vinyl.

Friday Favourites

There's no other sure sign of spring than eggs. Whether plastic, chocolate or the real deal seeing these little vessels are a definite confirmation that spring has sprung! These simple yet magnificent modern eggs were dipped dyed by artist and event designer Courtney of 'Merriment Events', via the blog 'Oh Joy!'.  They're so simple yet so intriguing and give us one of those 'why didn't I think of that' moments'. Whether you celebrate the Easter holiday or just the new coming of a wonderful season these eggs will definitely make a huge impact in any table setting or as a gift.
